Psychiatric and psychological terms are woefully inadequate. In my view, sociopaths are capable of “socializing” in the way that wolves are capable of travelling in packs—they represent a being with characteristics that are slightly more evolved than those of wild animals (that is, not domesticated dogs and cats or intelligent mammals such as dolphins).

Empaths, on the other hand, have evolved further and have various degrees of a developed “psyche”—empathetic beings, capable of love and human connectivity.

This theory was presented by Maurice Richard Bucke in his book Cosmic Consciousness written in 1905. As described at www.amazon.com: “This work is the magnum opus of Bucke’s career, a project that he researched and wrote over many years. In it, Bucke described his own experience, that of contemporaries (most notably Whitman, but also unknown figures like “C.P.”), and the experiences and outlook of historical figures including Buddha, Jesus, Paul, Plotinus, Muhammad, Dante, Francis Bacon, and William Blake. Bucke developed a theory involving three stages in the development of consciousness: the simple consciousness of animals; the self-consciousness of the mass of humanity (encompassing reason, imagination, etc.); and cosmic consciousness – an emerging faculty and the next stage of human development. Among the effects of this progression, he believed he detected a lengthy historical trend in which religious conceptions and theologies had become less and less fearful. A classic work.”

If this theory is correct, not only are all of the textbooks/reference books/etcetera regarding psychology and psychiatry incorrect, but our understanding of history (reasons for war, etcetera) is false. It is possible that we having been enduring an “evolutionary war” for millenia; with sociopaths (whom I refer to as “not quite people” (“NQP”)) growing in numbers to destroy those whom are born capable of telepathy but stripped of their ability to recognize, acknowledge and experience it.

If it were up to me, no one would be permitted to “practice” psychiatry unless they had significant lived experience with psychosis; ideally, also with mania and depression (both being mental states that can lead to psychosis). Without such skill for competent diagnosis, the psychiatric industry is nothing more than a money-siphoning salesforce for the pharmaceutical industry. People would be better off, in my experience, developing a relationship with a competent psychologist.
