One of the arguments often used to deny the credibility of the Bible suggests it contains too many contradictions. At first glace, The Book of Daniel’s 12:4 and The Book of Amos’ 8:12 do appear to contradict one another:
- Dan 12:4 states “[]”
- Amos 8:12 states “[]”
When I first noticed this so-called contradiction, I was blessed to have on hand a dictionary1; so, I looked up the word “knowledge”. I soon realized that knowledge was merely a compound word:
a) know: to recognize/to realize plus
b) ledge: a shelf-like projection.
Trust those Oxford-positioned individuals to indoctrinate us into thinking that the word “knowledge” had something to do with wisdom or “I.Q.”2 by redefining it over time. Now, whenever I:
- see a bookshelf, I call it a know-ledge and
- see/hear the word “knowledge”, I substitute the word “[awareness]” to better comprehend a sentence’s meaning.
“Please pass me the first book on that know-ledge? I’d like to have awareness of whatever’s written on the final page.”
Thesauruses, while handy, are only the first step in trying to “find your words”.

That possessing knowledge does not equate to having wisdom is confirmed in 1 Corinthians 12:8 which identifies both spiritual gifts:
“For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit;”
Amos’ phrase “the word of the Lord” [insert discussion]
Suffice it to say, the entire alleged contradiction is eliminated by a reader with a clear comprehension of the words He selected.3
Other oft-referenced, alleged contradictions include:
- Moses’ second Book, called “Exodus”, Chapter 20 Verse 8 versus
- The Gospel of Saint John’s Chapter 5 Verse 17;
however, a reader’s comprehension of His word Holy4 should easily refute that misperception.
