“Once Save Always Saved”

There are endless debates within the “Christian” community which, like all communities, consists of genuine opposition as well as malevolent disrupters who have been “inserted” to prevent people from […]. One of these debates involves whether or not salvation can be “reversed” vs. a gift of salvation which is unconditional. Listed below is the Scripture that was provided to support a “Once Saved Always Saved” (“OSAS”) view which believes that salvation is unconditional.

Moses’ fourth book, “Numbers”, was written to X in Y. Numbers is being stored at https://twb.rocks/living/spirit/bible/numbers.

  • Numbers 23:19  19God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?

Psalms

Contributions from King David (and others) resulted in 150 chapters.

  • Psalms 136: 1-26  1O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever. 2O give thanks unto the God of gods: for his mercy endureth for ever. 3O give thanks to the Lord of lords: for his mercy endureth for ever. 4To him who alone doeth great wonders: for his mercy endureth for ever. 5To him that by wisdom made the heavens: for his mercy endureth for ever. 6To him that stretched out the earth above the waters: for his mercy endureth for ever. 7To him that made great lights: for his mercy endureth for ever: 8The sun to rule by day: for his mercy endureth for ever: 9The moon and stars to rule by night: for his mercy endureth for ever. 10To him that smote Egypt in their firstborn: for his mercy endureth for ever: 11And brought out Israel from among them: for his mercy endureth for ever: 12With a strong hand, and with a stretched out arm: for his mercy endureth for ever. 13To him which divided the Red sea into parts: for his mercy endureth for ever: 14And made Israel to pass through the midst of it: for his mercy endureth for ever: 15But overthrew Pharaoh and his host in the Red sea: for his mercy endureth for ever. 16To him which led his people through the wilderness: for his mercy endureth for ever. 17To him which smote great kings: for his mercy endureth for ever: 18And slew famous kings: for his mercy endureth for ever: 19Sihon king of the Amorites: for his mercy endureth for ever: 20And Og the king of Bashan: for his mercy endureth for ever: 21And gave their land for an heritage: for his mercy endureth for ever: 22Even an heritage unto Israel his servant: for his mercy endureth for ever. 23Who remembered us in our low estate: for his mercy endureth for ever: 24And hath redeemed us from our enemies: for his mercy endureth for ever. 25Who giveth food to all flesh: for his mercy endureth for ever. 26O give thanks unto the God of heaven: for his mercy endureth for ever.

Question: is “mercy” unconditional?

  • Psalms 37:28  28For the LORD loveth judgment, and forsaketh not his saints; they are preserved for ever: but the seed of the wicked shall be cut off.

Except, Psalms 37:27 suggests “good works” is required >> 27Depart from evil, and do good; and dwell for evermore.

This suggestion continues in Psalms 37:29 >> 29The righteous shall inherit the land, and dwell therein for ever.

Important is the inclusion of the phrase “they follow me“. It’s a contract: they follow me and I shall provide eternal life.

That no man shall “pluck” addresses neither:

a) the work of Satan or

b) a free-will abandonment.

NOTICABLY ABSENT

John 14:15  15If ye love me, keep my commandments.

  • John 14:16-17  16And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; 17Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.

Good grief, this Scripture selected starts with the conjunction AND! Removing John 14:15 from the quote changes the entire meaning of John 14:16-17!

This excerpt clearly represents only the second half of the “contract”.

How does this support OSAS?

Hebrews 6 is NOTICABLY ABSENT >>>

WOW!! Hebrews 6:4-6 was completely ignored.

4For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost, 5And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come, 6If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame.

1 John

(insert introduction)

  • 1 John 2:19 19They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would no doubt have continued with us: but they went out, that they might be made manifest that they were not all of us.

This verse describes behavior of those who are anti-Christ and does not support an OSAS doctrine. In fact, 1 John 2 seems to counter OSAS at verses 24-25:

24Let that therefore abide in you, which ye have heard from the beginning. If that which ye have heard from the beginning shall remain in you, ye also shall continue in the Son, and in the Father. 25And this is the promise that he hath promised us, even eternal life. 26These things have I written unto you concerning them that seduce you27But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him

  • 1 John 2:28  28And now, little children, abide in him; that, when he shall appear, we may have confidence, and not be ashamed before him at his coming.

“Abide” = remain (G3306

Also, the Scripture continues … 29If ye know that he is righteous, ye know that every one that doeth righteousness is born of him.

  • 1 John 5:4  4For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.

It seems to me that verses 1 John 5:1-3 are required for the proper interpretation of 1 John 5:4:

1Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God: and every one that loveth him that begat loveth him also that is begotten of him. 2By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments3For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.

The requirement that we “keep his commandments” suggests that there are consequences if we do not. (link to 10C article

Jude

(insert introduction)

  • Jude 1:24  24Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy,

“… that is able to keep you from falling” suggests that He can keep us from falling; not that He must. Afterall, we do have free will.

Furthermore, the entire Epistle of Jude (stored at https://twb.rocks/living/spirit/bible/jude/jde_1-25) is a stark warning: plucking out verse 24 from the other 25 verses seems perfidious. Technically, it qualifies as a massive logical fallacy/literary device violation known as “cherry-picking”(see formal fallacy A-6 and more on literary devices used to influence/persuade at https://twb.rocks/living/spirit/logical-fallacies.
